About me ….
Photography, in particular the landscape genre, has been my lifelong obsession, albeit one that was for many years constrained by the demands of a business career. Since I was introduced to the magic of traditional film and print processing by one of my school art teachers, I have been captivated by the challenge of capturing images that convey effectively what I have seen and would like to portray.
Even without a camera in hand, I find myself always looking for pictures in the landscape, which is itself a means to see and appreciate more of the world around us. I am also a firm believer in the maxim that my best photograph is the one I have yet to take, which means that the hunt provides (nearly) as much satisfaction as nailing the shot I had conceived.
Having grown up with B&W negative and colour transparency film, I now mainly shoot digitally. For my landscape work, my weapon of choice is a technical camera coupled with a medium-format digital back, which makes for a relatively slow, manual and considered approach. This contributes greatly to my enjoyment of the creative process and I find it seems to improve the results too.
